Father of Indian Pharmaceutical Eduction:

        Prof. Mahadev lal shroff born on March 6th,1902 at darbhanga in Bihar.
Did engineering at Engineering college of Banaras Hindu university.

He was regarded as the father of Indian Pharmaceutical Eduction.


1937 - Modified it into a 3 years B.Pharmacy course at BHU for the 1st time. So, he was regarded as the pioneer and father of Indian Pharmaceutical Eduction.
1935 - Started United Provinces Pharma Association.
1939 - Modified into Indian pharmaceutical Association. In this year only, he edited a journal called Indian Journal of Pharmacy.
1940 - Prof. Schroff introduced M.Pharm at BHU.
1943 - Worked as Chief Chemist and Research Officer at Birla Brothers Ltd. and as Secretary at their laboratories till 1949.
1945 - Started the periodical, "Indian Pharmacist" for 10 years. Worked as a Principal of Birla College, Pilani for 5 years where he organized Pharmacy education at intermediate and degree levels.
1946 - President of Bengal Pharmaceutical Association.
1948 - Founded Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association (IPCA) whose counterpart is IPA (Indian Pharmaceutical Association).
1940-50 - Worked as member of DTAB, Indian Pharmacopoeial List Committee, and Health Panel of Planning Commission etc.
1949 - Elected as the 1st Vice-President of PCI (Pharmacy Council of India).
1954 - 1st elected President of PCI.
1959 - Worked as a head for the Department of Pharmacy at Saugar University for 2 years.
Prof. Schroff was the person who introduced D.Pharmacy, B.Pharmacy, B.Pharm (Honors) and B.Sc (Pharmacology, Microbiology, Biochemistry) courses. He worked as an incharge of Dharangdhara Chemical Works at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu for 4 years and introduced several new formulations.
1964 - Head of Pharmacy Department at Jadhavpur and was also young Professor there. Served as the 1st President of Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI).
1967-71- Started in edited Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Education. Important posts honored by him are :- * Member of Postwar Development Committee of Bihar.
* Scientific Advisory Board of Royal Asiatic Society of Bengal.
* Council of Indian Institute of Chemists. Important contributions made by him:-
* Founder of IPA, Indian Journal of Pharmacist, Bhaishaj Patrika in Hindi, Bheshjayan, IPC, President of State (Bengal, Bihar) Pharmacist Association and of PCI.
* Author of the book, 'History of Pharmacy' which dealt with the various pharmacy practices in India during ancient and medieval times. And finally on Aug 25th, 1971, he left all of us giving a perfect direction to the field of pharmacy, though not a pharmacist because of his interest, dedication, sincerity, understanding nature and service to mother land. Through his life, we can learn how to show devotion towards work, the sincerity and interest that you have to inculcate in whatever we do and excel in life.
